Addison Hines Music Therapy Internship Program

The music internship program is one of the largest programs of its kind in the nation. Sponsored by the Addison Hines Charitable Trust, it gives graduates of approved music therapy programs the clinical experience required for board certification as they help hospice patients and families.

Opportunities

We currently offer a 28-week, 1,040-hour clinical placement to 4 interns per year starting in January and June. Each start date offers two intern positions based in Palm Beach and Broward counties. County of placement is dependent on supervisor availability.

Benefits of our program include:

  • Immersive hospice, palliative, and bereavement experience.
  • Musical, clinical, and professional goals tailored to each intern.
  • Support and supervision from our large team of 10+ music therapists.
  • Experience working with an interdisciplinary team and providing MT advocacy through community outreach.
  • Gradual transition from observing, to co-leading, to leading ensuring interns feel well prepared for independently managing a caseload.
  • An independent caseload of 20-30 patients by midterm, offering professional experience with various plans of care.
  • Additional opportunities for professional development through participation in monthly staff meetings and internal CMTEs.
  • Training in electronic medical record systems and clinical documentation.
  • Access to instruments, equipment, electronics, and resources throughout the program.
  • A perfect balance of support and independence to foster professional growth and resilience.
  • $12,000 stipend and mileage reimbursement (dispersed monthly).

Internship candidates who are seeking music therapy board certification and have attended an AMTA-member college or university are welcome to apply!
